DIY Squeezable Cacao Toothpaste

While searching for cacao pods for my cacao ceremonies, I came across Buena Fruta Farm, which not only sold cacao pods but also cacao toothpaste. I loved the concept, but the shipping to the Netherlands was quite pricey. So, I decided to find a way to make my own. During my search, I discovered Sustainable Saturday’s recipe, which I tried, but it ended up hardening in the toothpaste tube and wouldn’t come out. Next, I looked for a recipe that would stay squeezable and found one from Homemade Mommy, though it didn’t include cacao. I combined the best of both recipes and came up with my own version:

Ingredients: (for about 50ml of toothpaste)

  • 3 tbsp bentonite clay
  • 2 tbsp coconut oil (melted)
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 3/4 tsp Celtic sea salt
  • 3 tbsp (filtered/)water
  • 1/2 tsp cocoa powder

Directions:

  • Melt the coconut oil
  • Put the melted coconut oil in a bowl / glass
  • add the bentonite clay, the baking soda, the Celtic sea salt, 2tbsp of the water and the cacao powder
  • Mix it up with a spoon / fork
  • Place in the refrigerator until it hardens
  • Add 1+ tbsp water and mix

Now your mixture should not be hard but have a bit of a clay texture.

You can put it in a Toothpaste Tube or a jar.
